Shorts Are Getting Shorter

Its a trend that has been in the making for over a year now. Men's shorts are getting shorter and looking more sophisticated. The days of baggy and loose shorts are gone, thanks to trends like popular TikTok videos!

Over the last few years style experts and publications have been promoting and featuring shorts that have lower inseam numbers. The trends for short shorts for the guys was at a peak in the 1970's. Just go look at the yearbooks from then. In the 1990's, mens clothes gradually became larger and baggier, a trend that really was noticeable around the end of the 90's and beginning of the 2000's.

Clothes that were sagging or falling off a man's hips was a popular phenomenon, and became the norm. Today the trends are raising above the knee! Think of a cleaner look for men's shorts, like what you would see worn on the golf course. That's the new style trend!

On TikTok, videos witht he hashtag #5incgseam have been viewed over 24 million times. Previously, many men couldn't even name their shorts' inseam number and many brands didn't specify the inseam length. Stores like Target are now creating displays with shorts to showcase the inseam lengths. Brands like Patagonia and Nike are doing the same thing online.

Women on the TikTok app are voicing their preferences, and the consensus is clear. Men should not be wearing baggy, long shorts; instead, men should be showing more leg because it carries infinitely more sex appeal.

We have gathered some tips to help you out with this new trend...

How Long Should Men's Shorts Be?

The most common lengths for men's shorts are 3, 5, 7, and 9 inches measured through the inseam.

How To Choose The Perfect Fit

The easy answer to wearing shorts correctly is this: Never below the knee. Your shorts don’t have to be skin tight. They should be fitted and comfortable, and you should be able to move around.

When trying on shorts, it’s most important that they fit in the seat and crotch.

Stick with solid colors and small scale patterns or prints.

Solid colors like tan, khaki, black, navy, grey and olive are always a safe and classy choice.

Once you find something that fits, order a couple of different styles and colors, then you’ll be set for a while.
